"As is a tale, so is a life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters." – Seneca
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Suellen Clements of Lynchburg, Virginia. Sue passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, following a stroke. She was 78.
Born on August 12, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, Sue was the beloved firstborn daughter of Clinton and Kathryn (Huthmacher) Blackburn. She was married to her soulmate and cherished husband of 55 years, Cliff, and was a loving mother to their daughter, Kristin.
Working in the field of education in various support positions, Sue retired from Mad River Local Schools in Dayton, Ohio. Following her retirement, she and Cliff relocated to Virginia—a place dear to their hearts throughout their marriage—so they could be closer to their daughter.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Clements, of Lynchburg, Virginia, and her daughter, Kristin (Stephen) Wenzel, of Laurel, Maryland. She is also survived by her sisters, Elaine (Joseph) Kazzi of California and Alice (Ronald) Grubb of Columbus, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Renee Clements of Hilliard, Ohio, and Carol Clements of Worthington, Ohio; nieces, Ashli Welsh of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Sonja Nichols of St. Louis, Missouri, and Marisa Kazzi of California; nephews, Neal (Kathryn) Clements of Columbus, Ohio, Adam (Shelly) Clements of Blacklick, Ohio, Aaron Globe of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua (Mary) Nichols of Grove City, Ohio, and Mikhael Kazzi of California.
She also leaves behind great-nieces Abigail Welsh of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Madilyn Clements of Blacklick, Ohio, and Molly Clements of Columbus, Ohio; great-nephews Nathan Welsh and Carter Welsh of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Jameson Clements of Blacklick, Ohio, Erwin Clements of Columbus, Ohio, and Alexander Nichols of Grove City, Ohio.
Sue also leaves behind many beloved friends and “family of the heart.”
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
