Thyra Jean Anderson

Born on September 26, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, Thyra was the daughter of the late Allie Hodnett and Garland Burnett Hodnett. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Hodnett and Ralph Hodnett.

Thyra worked for many years at Pepsi Cola and later retired from Workman Oil Company. She dedicated much of her life to serving others through her work in the church, where she was an active member throughout her life. Known for her generous spirit and gift of hospitality, Thyra was deeply involved in her Sunday School classes and Ladies Fellowship, where she found joy in serving others. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

Her family was the center of her world. Thyra cherished every moment spent with her husband, son, and grandchildren, always ensuring they were well cared for and loved.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Matthew Anderson (Marya); grandchildren, Carson Anderson (Lynn) and Maria Anderson; her great grandson, Harrison Anderson and her sister, Nan Dalton (Jack).

A service celebrating Thyra’s life and faith will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will welcome friends for visitation one hour prior to the service.

Thyra’s kindness, grace, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
