Valerie Howell Tyree, 51, of Rustburg, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born on December 25, 1965, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of Nancy Brown Phelps and the late Samuel Howell. Valerie was employed at Liberty University as a compliance analyst. Her purpose in life was to serve and help others. Her smile was contagious and she touched everyone she met in some way. Valerie was active in her church and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and family. She was a member of Greenview Church of God.
Valerie is survived by her daughter, Brandi Wright; two granddaughters, Aubrey Wright and Avery Wright; mother, Nancy Phelps and husband, Wayne; sisters, Stephanie Staton and husband, Mike, and Connie Burkholder and husband, Steve; special life-long friend, Angela Helmintoller and her son, Johnathan Brady; her church family; and numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Tammy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
