

Virginia Elizabeth Martin, 84, of Madison Heights, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at her residence. She was the wife of her late first husband Ernest Raymond Simmers and her late second husband Dicie Lewis Martin. Born June 7, 1930, in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late George Burley Cousins and the late Helen Williams Cousins.
Virginia was a retired dietician for Blue Ridge Hospital, where she worked in the cafeteria as a baker. She was also a member of Amazing Grace Ministries.
In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was preceded in death by one son, Charles R. Simmers; and three siblings, Charles J. Cousins, John B. Cousins and Florence C. Martin.
Virginia is survived by her children, Roger L. Simmers of Scottsville, Ernest L. Simmers of Concord, David R. Simmers and his wife Wanda of Madison Heights and Shirley S. Knight and her husband Danny of Singers Glen; two siblings, William M. Cousins of Maryland and Margaret L. Martin of Lynchburg; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Simmers of Scottsville; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Bill Evans officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015, at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and at other times at the residence.
