

Wallace Edward Farris, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Runk & Pratt Residential Adult Care. He was the loving and devoted husband of Delores Hall Farris for sixty-six years.
Born April 12, 1924 in Gladys, he was the son of the late John Henry Farris, Sr. and Hattie Reynolds Farris and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, John Henry, Jr., and Hubert; four sisters, Maude, Elizabeth, Mabel, and Jenny Mae and a grandson, Ryan Farrar. Mr. Farris was retired from General Electric and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theatre as a Gunners Mate aboard the USS Canfield.
Mr. Farris loved Tyreeanna United Methodist Church and his church family. He was a member of the church for fifty-seven years, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught the Men’s Class. He also was a former secretary of the Ruritan Men’s Club of Tyreeanna U.M. Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Farris is survived by two sons, Michael Edward Farris and wife Kitty of Appomattox and William Lynwood (Bill) Farris and wife Patricia of Lynchburg; one daughter, Sharon F. Dudley and husband Bobby of Lynchburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Liberty Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Runk & Pratt Residential Adult Care on Leesville Road, and to his caregiver, Helen Sandidge for their wonderful care of Mr. Farris.
