W.C. Gilliam Jr.

Willie Connie “W.C.” Gilliam, Jr., 93 of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 Woodview Medical Center in South Boston. He was the husband of the late Nellie Phillips Gilliam.
Born in Pamplin, May 1, 1925, he was the son of the late Willie Connie Gilliam and Eliza Frances Gills Gilliam. W.C. proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was the retired owner/operator of Gilliam’s Exxon and was a longtime member of College Hill Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Gilliam and Watts Gilliam and five sisters, Bess Ranson, Wilsie Bruce, Mary Elder, Cora Lee Babcock and Frances Gilliam.
He is survived by his son, Gary Michael Gilliam and his wife Julie of Halifax; three grandchildren, Gary Michael Gilliam, Jr. his wife Christy and their children, Grayson and Garrett, Matt Gilliam and his wife Sabrina and their son, Grant and Amanda Bates and her husband Chuck and their children, Maylee and Hattie; one brother, Dabney Gilliam and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Hale officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
