Laura Jean Gilbert

Laura “Jean” (Brewster) Gilbert, age 77, of Peabody, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Laura (Merryman) Brewster. Born in 1945, Jean remained a lifelong resident of Lynn, graduating from Lynn English High School, class of 1963. She worked as a Claims Clerk for the city in the unemployment department until her retirement.

She was the loving mother to Tina (Gilbert) Cook and her husband Richard Jr. of Salem, Lisa Gilbert and her partner Steve Champaine of Salem, and Wayne Gilbert of Dover, New Hampshire, the adored grandmother to Tyler R. Cook, M E Cook, Joshua Fisher, Austin Gilbert, and Abigal Gilbert, and the wonderful sister to Bertha Liberge and Pamela Dowling. She is predeceased by her brother, Steven Brewster, her sister, Nancy Burns, and her grandson, Ryan Fisher.

Jean will be remembered for her love of floral arrangements, crafts, and listening to audiobooks. She was the rock of the family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Jean’s Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery.
