Deborah Ann Shearer

Her family sadly announces that Deborah Ann Shearer, beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed from this life to be with the Lord on May 1, 2025. Debbie was born to Richard Keith Perkins and Robbie Lee Perkins on July 2, 1952, in Pasadena, Texas. Her parents and her loving husband of almost 50 years, Brian Paul Shearer, preceded her in death. Debbie and Brian built a life and a family together based on love, laughter, and countless memories. She has now rejoined Brian and her parents in eternal life.

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Lee Pierce, her husband Huw and their children Madison and Ian, her son Joel Paul Shearer, and his daughter Grace, her older brother Rick Perkins, and her younger brother Ed Perkins and his wife Heidi, along with countless relatives and friends. Debbie was fiercely devoted to her family, who stood by her side through all of life’s happiness and challenges. Debbie loved travel and pursued an adventurous life, never choosing to sit still. Although she struggled with Alzheimer’s in her later years, she never lost her spirit.

Debbie spent most of her working life as an educator, teacher and school administrator, including time as Principal of College Park Elementary in Deer Park, Texas, and culminating as Director of Curriculum and Staff Development at The Kipling School and Kipling Street Academy in Houston. She was known for her unwavering commitment to education and her ability to connect with students on a personal level. Her passion for learning and her kindness with kids left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She so loved to help kids learn about science that Debbie found time to work as a member the Education Working Group at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and co-wrote numerous children’s books about science, robots, and space travel. Those publications will help ensure that her legacy of teaching and learning continues.

A graveside service for family will be held on Sunday May 25, 2025, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Mabank, Texas.
