Edna Marie Beltz was born to parents Homer and Margery Evers on January 24, 1930. She entered into eternal rest on September 25, 2021. Edna graduated from St. Rose Catholic School in Lima, Ohio in 1948. She graduated from St. Rita’s Hospital School of Nursing program in 1951. After moving to Texas, Edna served as the Director of Nursing in the 1970’s at the Henderson County Hospital in Athens, Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing at University of Texas in Tyler in 1981. Later in her career, she served as the first school nurse in Mabank ISD history.
Edna was baptized seven days after she was born, on January 31, 1930 and so began her life of service and devotion to others. The love she had for her Savior could be seen in her daily life and her active involvement in the communities she lived in. Edna was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church of Gun Barrel City for more than 46 years and was one of the original founding members. In that time, she was an active part of many of their community programs, clubs, and outreach programs. Edna enthusiastically led their softball team and community Easter egg hunts. Edna served as the Director of Religious Education for 37 years, retiring in 2012. She went on mission trips to Honduras, an active member of The Catholic Daughters of America in Tyler, Texas. She was also a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary Club in Seven Points. Edna was a cherished member of Mabank Lions Club, serving as president since 1994 and leading their annual eyeglass collection program.
When she had free time, Edna loved to swim, play tennis, watch the Texas Rangers play ball, and care for her animals. However, her favorite pastime was spending precious moments with her beautiful family. Edna was a devoted wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother, her family was her greatest treasure in this life. She was an extraordinary woman and touched so many hearts in her life. She was well loved and will be truly missed by so many.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Margery Evers; husband John Beltz and sister Frances Sharp. She is survived by her children, Mike Beltz and wife Sarah, Christina Peterson, Jeff Beltz and wife Julie; grandchildren, Jenie, Cody, Jamie, Caleb, Regan, Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Rlee, Clive, Liam, Jase and Cash. Edna leaves behind many other loved ones and lifelong friends.
