

Adams and Helen Alegertha Siefkas. He grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he was in the
Boy Scouts, enjoyed singing in the high school choir, and ran track. After graduating from high
school in St. Joseph, Missouri, he married Nancy May Happy on September 2, 1956 in Liberty,
Missouri. Ed joined the United States Air Force and was first stationed at Ellsworth Air Force
Base in Rapid City, South Dakota where he worked as an electronics specialist. Daughter Alice
was born to Nancy and Ed in Rapid City. He and Nancy were then deployed to the Torreón Air
Force Base in Madrid, Spain. During their tour of duty in Spain, Ed and Nancy added two more
daughters to their family, Julie and Janet. In Spain, Ed and Nancy enjoyed family camping in the
mountains around Madrid, Ed learned to fly a Cessna two-seater plane, and took up
photography as a hobby. After his tour of duty was complete, Ed and Nancy moved to Kansas
City, Missouri, where Ed worked in electronics for the Bendix Corporation. Two years later, he
completed an intensive course in computer science and went to work for Honeywell in Dallas,
Texas in the mid 1960s.
Ed and Nancy lived in Mesquite, Texas and raised their three daughters. After Honeywell, Ed
went to work for Affiliated Computer Systems, where he built computer hardware and
participated in the development of the early ATM machines. On weekends Ed enjoyed flying
model airplanes, woodworking, and talking on his ham radio. In the 1980s Ed took up golf, and
began commuting to the Cedar Creek Country Club. A few years later, he and Nancy bought
their first home on Cedar Creek, their retirement destination. After a long career working in
computers and a decade of being a weekender at the Lake, Ed retired in his late 60s and he
and Nancy moved permanently to Cedar Creek. Here they enjoyed the social life at the club,
made many new friends, and became members at St. James-on-the-Lake Episcopal Church.
He and Nancy participated in many charitable events through social groups at the country club.
After Nancy’s death in 2005, Ed was supported by his close friends, Robin Couch, Mike and
Traci Klink, Stephanie Fitzpatrick, Wilbur and Lavonne Dennis, Paul and Sonny Lassiter, Bob
and Betty Picard, among many others. He enjoyed birdwatching, feeding the ducks, taking care
of his dogs, Fanny May and Georgie and Wagner, and being part of this supportive community.
His daughters are grateful for all the friends here at Cedar Creek who made his life without mom
full of laughter and love.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Adams, his sister Helen Adams,
and his brother Paul Adams, and his wife of 49 years, Nancy. He is survived by his daughters,
Alice Berecka and husband Alan, Julie Wakeland and husband John, and Janet Adams. He is
also survived by grandchildren, Rachael Berecka and husband Bernerd Schaefer, Aaron and
partner Maddy Bethard, Matthew Wakeland and wife Katie Wakeland, and Alicia Welborn and
husband Taylor Welborn.
A visitation for Edward will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Eubank Cedar Creek Memorial Chapel, 601 S. 3rd St. Mabank, TX. A church services will occur Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. James On The Lake Episcopal Church;10707 CR 4022, Kemp, TX 75143.
