She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jesse Doughty, one sister, Bernice Gambrel, four brothers, Lowell, Joe Morris, John Woodrow, and Chester Crews, and stepson Richard Doughty. Georgia is survived by two sisters, Helen (Jerry) Grimes and Dorothy Tate, children Stephen (Irene) Hall, Lisa (Ivan) Johnson, and Laura Wood, step-children Evelyn Baldridge, Terry Doughty and Steve (Iris) Doughty, grandchildren, Kevin (Emily) Hall, Bethany (Jesse) Rudolph, and Isaac Johnson, step grandchildren Jamie Laird, Rebecca Pino, Jerry Baldridge, Jr, Holly Baldridge, Chris Baldridge, Adam Doughty, Heather Werner, Matthew Doughty, Corey Doughty, Eric Doughty, Michael Doughty, Amber Dennis, and Brandon Doughty, great-grandchildren, Georgia (her namesake) and Graham Rudolph, several nieces and nephews, numerous step great-grandchildren, and step great-great-grandchildren.
Georgia grew up in the Atoy Community and graduated from Rusk High School two years early, having skipped two grades in elementary school. She moved to Dallas, Tx shortly after graduation and began working for an insurance company and started her family shortly after that. Georgia and her children moved to Jacksonville, Tx in the early 60s where she was employed for many years with Nan Travis Hospital in the dietary department as the assistant to the dietician. She married Jesse Doughty in 1977 and moved to Eddy, Texas and she handled the bookkeeping for his construction company. They later relocated to Burleson, Tx where she worked and retired from nearby Hughley Memorial Hospital. They eventually settled in Mabank, Tx and resided there until his passing in 2017 when she moved to Flint to live with her daughter. She was a Christian and lived a quiet faith.
Georgia was an avid reader, enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and loved playing most any card games. You could often hear the sound of dice in a Yahtzee cup echoing from her direction. She never missed an episode of Jeopardy, if she could help it. She sewed many quilts in her lifetime, giving many of them away to children or grandchildren. Georgia was a die-hard Texas Rangers fan and remarked many times that she ought to be their manager because she could do a better job than whoever was managing at that time. We feel that she has finally assumed her management position and is helping them win some crucial games heading to the postseason.
