He was born January 6, 1938 in Beaumont, Texas to his parents Zolan Thornton and Lucille Majors.
He grew up in Lumberton, Texas and graduated from Silsbee High School. He served in the Texas Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves. He worked for Eastex Pulp and Paper Mill in Evadale, Texas for over 35 years.
Glen loved to travel, especially in the mountains. He and his wife, Shirley, went on 59 cruises, toured the orient and Europe, among other places. He was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City where he enjoyed studying the Bible in his Sunday School class, and fellowshipping with others. Glen enjoyed flying model airplanes and was an amateur ham radio operator.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jimmy; and his wife Shirley. He is survived by children Dwayne Thornton, Tammy Asher, Freya Niederstadt, Susan Helton, Robert Helton, and Sherry Myers; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
