Wayne, affectionately called “Butch” during his childhood, lived a full and meaningful life marked by curiosity, a love of learning, and a deep connection to family. He carried a sense of adventure throughout his life, including time spent living in the Middle East, something he often shared through stories that stayed with those around him.
Wayne was a lover of knowledge, especially when it came to the Bible. He began studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses and chose to become one after becoming convinced that they held the truth about the Bible and God’s purpose. His faith remained a central part of his life and was deeply instilled in his children and grandchildren. He found great joy in teaching others about the Bible, Jehovah, and His Son, Jesus.
As a profession and another love, Wayne was a horticulturist. He owned and operated the local business Treetop Landscape for over 40 years. Many landscape and lawn care companies that followed were influenced by his guidance, as he was always willing to share his knowledge and lend a hand to anyone who asked. Gardening was not just his work, but something he truly loved.
Wayne had a special love for roses, with a particular fondness for the Julia Child rose. Bright yellow and richly aromatic, it was a fitting reflection of his personality.
Wayne also found joy in spending time with his family and had a way of making you feel like you were the only person in the room, whether the conversation was warm or a little more direct.
Wayne will be remembered for his integrity and his love, shown in the way he held firmly to his faith, his deep love for Jehovah and His Son, and the hope he carried for the future.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Vickie Greenhaw; his children, Jeremy and Diana Greenhaw, Jason and Jessica Smith, Joshua and Brooke Greenhaw, and Joshua and Jolene Finley; his grandchildren, Zophia Finley, Grayson Finley, Remington Finley, Wade Greenhaw, and Shelby Greenhaw; his mother, Marjorie Greenhaw; his brothers, David Greenhaw and Mike Greenhaw; and his sister, Sally Abbott.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jenny Lynn Greenhaw, and his father, Ivan Wayne Greenhaw, Sr.
A memorial service will be held on May 9th at 2:00 p.m. at the Athens Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 3650 NE S Loop 7, Athens, Texas. 75751.
