

James Alton Chamness, age 84, of Mabank, Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. James was born July 4, 1937; to parents, Johnny Everett Chamness and Opal Mae Etheredge. He was a caring and doting father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; who loved spending time with his family and dog, Reba. This United States Marine Veteran, served his Country proudly as at Motor Vehicle Operator for 4 years. James had a strong and dignified work ethic, he worked all of his life. James built several houses in the mountains of South Carolina and Texas. He served many years as a Pipe fitter. James attended the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge 737 in North Carolina; Indian Land Masonic Lodge 414 of South Carolina; and the Local Plumbers Union 100; as well as the Pipe Fitter Union of Texas. He will be dearly missed by all of those he knew and met.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Everett and Opal Mae Chamness; wife, Ruth Chamness; and sister, Everette Mae Wagstaff.
He is survived by his daughters, Caren and husband Chris Anthony of Eustace, TX. and Leann Chamness with her partner Sandy Frankum of Gun Barrel City, TX.; brothers, Johnny Chamness of Dallas, TX., Anthony Chamess and wife Janet of Dripping Springs, TX.; 3 grandchildren, Chad Anthony and wife Amy of Mesquite, TX., Christen Whittenburg and husband Robert of Seven Points, TX., Caden Anthony and wife Summer of Eustace, TX.; along with 9 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00am; located at the Eustace Fire Department.
