

James Glynn Cooksey was born July 22, 1933 in Tolosa, Texas to parents Forrest Glynn and Willie Ovada (Griffing) Cooksey and entered eternal rest on November 8, 2017 at the age of 84. James was always very active. He played football for Mabank High School before graduation in 1951. James then went on to the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering. His first job out of college was at the Texas Railroad Commission in Austin. James married the love of his life, Maridelle, on September 15, 1955 in Fairbanks, Alaska, when it was still the Territory of Alaska. He enjoyed square dancing, restoring cars and even raced motorcycles for several years. James was employed by Jake L. Hamon, then The Pickens Co. for 10 years. He was a Mason, a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and a member of Cedar Creek Lake United Methodist Church. James was a good, always happy man with a very inquisitive mind. He will be greatly missed, as most who knew him consider it a blessing to have known him.
James is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Neel Manning and ‘Boots’ Luce and sister Carolyn Sue Riddles.
He is survived by his wife Maridelle of Tool, son Andrew Glynn Cooksey and spouse Laurie of Coppell, daughter Melanie Anne Hutchinson and spouse Michael of Styx, grandsons; Kevin Manning Cooksey of Austin and Daniel Glynn Cooksey of San Antonio, granddaughters; Shannon Nicole Hatley and spouse Jeremy of Rowlett and Kelley Anne Hutchinson of New Summerfield, great-granddaughter Megan Leanne Hatley, brother Bobby Joe Cooksey and wife Jackie of Oklahoma City, numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many more friends.
