James was a kind man, and I have fond memories of hot summer days with him at the lake. I hadn’t seen him in decades, since leaving Eustace. We met James and his family, years before we moved there, at the Clear Creek Marina. I almost drown one windy day, while playing in the lake, on a styrofoam boogie board. My Dad swam out to get me, I was about to be pulled under the pier. As he pushed me up out of the water, I remember he handed me up to James, who was running down the pier to help my Dad. I didn’t recognize him because he was bald, it was something I had never seen before. I will forever be grateful he was there to help. I am so sorry for the loss, my prayers, and deepest condolences to his family, and friends.

Having taught in Eustace for 20 years I had the pleasure of teaching his children and getting to know James very well as a parent and a school board member. James was very involved with the activities his children participated and he and his sweet wife were very supportive of my program in theater when his oldest daughter Melissa was in one of our State plays "The Bad Seed". James was a good, fair, man who listened to people who needed to talk with him. He will be missed not only by his family but by his friends.
