Janet Florence Thornton

Janet Thornton, of Athens, passed away on September 19th, 2026, in Athens Texas. She will always be remembered as loving her family and a devout Christian. She was born on January 27th, 1941, in Lewiston, Maine to Andre and Annette Tetreault. Janet grew up in Lewiston Maine where she lived in the care of a Catholic Orphanage, and she would go see her father on the weekends. As an adult she spent most of her life as a waitress, Janet was a very generous and kind woman she would always make sure those around her were taken care of and safe. She also worked after retirement as a cook at church summer camps in Arkansas and Maine. When she was not working as a volunteer at clothe closets, food pantries, visiting nursing homes, making blankets for maternity wards she traveled the country often with her grandkids. Alongside this was her love of the three Gs; God, Gardening, and Garage sales she also loved feeding birds.

Janet is preceded in death by her loving parents Andre and Annette Tetreault, her beloved husband Jeremiah Thornton (of 60 years), her sisters Claudette Tetreault, and Anita Lapierre, and her son Daniel Thornton.

Janet is survived by her sons; David Thornton (Wife Connie of Santa Fe Texas), Samuel Thronton (wife Donna of Canton Texas), and Benjamin Thornton (Wife Belinda of Ooltewah Tennessee). Her Daughter Rebecca and husband Kieth Cantrell, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on 09/27/2026 at the Athens Seven-Day Adventist Church.
