Jeremiah David Thornton was born September 19, 1932 in Gardiner, Maine to parents James Edward and Florence May (Peterson) Thornton and entered into eternal rest on March 15, 2019 at the age of 86. After graduation from Gardiner high school Jeremiah entered into the United States Navy. He served in the Korean War where he was on a battleship, rode on a train, flew in a plane and traveled around the world. Jeremiah returned from the war and married Janet Tetreault on August 2, 1958 in Lewiston, Maine, He was a jack of all trades who worked as a forklift driver in a paper mill about 10 years, as an electrician for a year then maintenance for 20 years. Jeremiah was a strong-willed man but a character who loved children. He enjoyed puzzles, traveling, nature, going on hikes and bird-watching, Jeremiah was an elder, decon and maintenance man for the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mesquite, He was devoted to his religious beliefs and loved volunteering at summer church camp. Jeremiah was an amazing man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jeremiah was preceded in death by; his parents, all nine of his siblings and son Daniel Thornton.
He is survived by Janet his wife of over 60 years of Gun Barrel City, son David Jeremiah Thornton and wife Connie of Santa Fe, son Samuel Andrew Thornton and wife Donna of Canton, son Benjamin Joel Thornton and wife Belinda of Chattanooga, TN, daughter-in-law Debra Leel Thornton of Mesquite, daughter Rebecca Lyn Cantrell and husband Keith of Eustace, grandchildren; Eric, Jennifer, Brianna, Bethany, Doug, Amber, Danielle, Ethan and Kassidy, thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, other loving family members and many more friends.
