On February 17, 2022, JoAnn Cox Lewis-Vinton of Eustace, Texas, was moved to her heavenly home at the age of 78. JoAnn’s life began on June 16, 1943, in Atlanta, Georgia. JoAnn and her sister, Patsy, were adopted by loving parents Walter and Anna Lillian Cox. She grew up in Oak Cliff, Texas, with her brother, Walter Ray Cox. There, her mother lived out her promise to the Lord to raise her children in church. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and brother. JoAnn is survived by her husband of 18 years, John Vinton, her son Dale Lewis and wife Elane, daughter Darla Meister and husband Jeff, daughter Michalla Revland and husband Nick, and John’s daughters, Donna McFadden and husband Mark, Denise Schwartz and husband Kevin, and Debbie Barchue. Her grandchildren include Heather, Lindsey and husband Josh, Haley and husband Jacob, Lillian, Pearson, and JoyAnna. Her great-grandchildren include Rylie, Everett, and Avery. She was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.
JoAnn and her husband John are members of Lakeview Assembly of God Church in Seven Points. JoAnn loved her home to be full and to be surrounded by family and friends. Whether they were outside playing kickball, hosting a fish fry, water skiing, riding roller coasters at Six Flags, or playing Chicken Foot, she never missed an opportunity to have fun and make others feel welcomed and loved.
JoAnn was a godly woman who loved the Lord with all of her heart. Her embodiment of Christ was an example to all she met. She taught others how to pray over lost keys, exams, road trips, or anything big or small because she knew, without a doubt, God would answer. Heaven only knows the eternal impact all of her many years of faithful service and praying had on those she touched. She has done all the Lord has asked of her on the earthly side of life, now she is worshiping, walking with Jesus, and waiting to greet all of us at the pearly gates one day.
As we recall the stories and memories of JoAnn’s life, the sobering truth is that our words are like ashes in the light of eternity. We celebrate knowing that God welcomed JoAnn with open arms and called to her “well done, my good and faithful servant.”
