Jodell Jane Smith

Jodell Jane Smith, 76, of Austin, Texas, died at home with her family on February 13, 2026, in Sienna, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, and colleague, to all that knew and loved her. She was born on April 18, 1949, in Austin, Texas, to Harry and Josie Mae Jaster.

Jodell married the love of her live, Joe Keith Smith, on March 26, 1977. Together they had one daughter, Jennifer Jane, in 1980. Jodell held a successful career working for the State of Texas at the Comptroller’s office. Her career started soon after high school at the Texas Capitol building. After retirement from the State of Texas in 1999, she enjoyed traveling with Joe Keith, her husband. They went on a variety of cruises, her favorite being Hawaii, Panama Canal and an Alaskan cruise. She and Joe Keith then moved to Canton, Texas, where they lived from 2011-2013 until his passing on April 21, 2013. Jodell then moved in with her daughter and her family in Houston, Texas, in the summer of 2013. Later she moved with her family to New York. Her grandchildren will always have found memories of her living with us in New York. The very first week we had moved she asked, “When are we moving back to Texas.” Jodell was a proud Texan threw and threw. She was delighted to return to Texas soil in August 2017. Jodell loved sports and most of all football. She never missed a Texas Longhorns football game if she could help it. She enjoyed watching all things Texas Longhorns and was rooting on the team no matter the sport season it was. As her time in Houston continued, she became a loyal Houston Texans and Houston Astros fan. Jodell loved watching her grandchildren play sports in her neighborhood.

Jodell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Sean Timmons; her grandchildren: Lillie, Noah, and Jack Timmons of Sienna, Texas; her sister and brother-in-law Judy and Randy Smith of El Campo, Texas; her brother Jerry Jaster of Austin, Texas; her niece Shelby Gadke; her nephew Scott Smith; and many loving cousins and loving relatives across Texas and the United States.

She was preceded in death by Joe Keith Smith, her loving husband of 36 years; her parents Harry and Joise Jaster; and her brother Jimmy Rae Jaster.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
