John Francis Brownell was born on October 13, 1939 in Concordia, KS to parents Arthur Clinton Brownell and Ernestine Agnes (Smith) Brownell and entered into eternal rest on September 2, 2019 at the age of 79, in Kaufman, TX. John was raised in Concordia and graduated from Concordia High School. He married the love of his life, Alice Elizabeth Smith, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church on August 22, 1959 in Cawker City, KS. John worked for Concordia Tractor over 47 years as a mechanic and parts-man.
John loved being outdoors - hunting, boating, fishing, gardening, and camping with his family.
His hobbies were restoring old tractors & one-cylinder engines, woodworking, and metal milling. He restored a 1941 John Deere B Tractor for his grandson and built a wooden cradle for his granddaughter. For family and friends he built kitchen cabinets, toys, gadgets, picture frames, shelves, plant stands, paper towel & napkin holders, and a coffee table. He was a man of few words but when he spoke you knew to listen because he would always have great advice. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and brother. John will be missed tremendously by those who knew and loved him. Future graveside services will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS. John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Frank, Lois, Edwin “Pete”, Charles, and Harry Brownell, and half-sister Betty Grigsby. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice of Mabank, TX (formerly of Concordia, KS); daughters Sandra of Mabank, TX, Kimberly; grandchildren Abel & Olivia Nulton, all of Austin, TX; half-brother William “Bill” Brownell of Centralia, KS; sisters: Nancy Green and husband Larry of Salina, KS, Mary Rhoden and husband Allen of Fairbury, NE, Mabel Carlson and husband Robert of Abilene, KS, and Edna Brownell of Lincoln, KS; sisters-in-law: Alexine Brownell of Clay Center, KS, Elaine Brownell of Wamego, KS, and Janice Brownell of Concordia, KS, plus numerous beloved nieces and nephews, along with many more lifelong friends.
