Chris was born on Feb. 25, 1958, to Dr. Charles and Cecilia Cook in Natchitoches, LA. On Nov. 3, 2022, at age 64, he died at Clements University Medical Center from complications of metastatic breast cancer.
Chris attended schools in Natchitoches and later the University of Texas at Arlington. Chris was an adventurer and sportsman who spent much time boating, skiing, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends. He always loved being on the water, even learning to water ski barefoot on the Cane River. He was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys football fan.
Chris settled in Dallas in 1980 and began a career in sales. He spent most of his career in the floorcovering business.
In 1989, he married Sandy Humphrey. During their marriage, they welcomed daughters Rebecca and Christa.
In 2009 he married Marcie (Hovey) Thomas. They lived in Richardson until 2020, when they moved to Cedar Creek Lake. Chris found much happiness being on the water again, fishing and boating with family and friends, or just sitting on the deck in the “treehouse.”
Chris had a credo in life, “positive mental attitude,” or PMA. Anyone who knew him heard him remind himself and others of the power of a positive attitude. This PMA also fueled his valiant fight against cancer.
Preceding him in death, father Charlie, brother Don and sisters Kathy and Janice.
Left to mourn are his wife Marcie, daughters Rebecca (Plano) and Christa (McAllen), and step-children Holly (Wasilla AK), Andrew (Plano), and Jill (Dallas) Thomas. Also beloved grandson and namesake, Johannes; Chris’s mother Cele; siblings Lynn (Bill) Hanks, Carol McBride, Keith (Betsy) Cook, and Edd (Diana) Cook, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the faculty, care teams, and staff at UT Southwestern Medical Center for the excellent care Chris received over the past 5 years; and to our extended family and friends for your loving, prayerful support on this journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorials to be given to a local food bank or other charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church (130 Luther Lane, Gun Barrell City, TX) on Thursday, November 10 at 11 am. A light luncheon will be served after the service.
