Ken was born in Wichita, KS on January 14, 1930 to parents Ray F. Elliott and Vella K. Troyer Elliott. Ken’s mother adored him and would take him out to show him off to her friends. He had the most beautiful curly blonde hair. As he grew up he would spend time on his relatives farm in Protection, KS, where he would help harvest, hunt and fish. As a young man he would work as a caddy to make money for his family. His father, Ray, had his own painting business and taught Dad how to paint houses when he was 16 years old. He graduated in 1949 from Wichita North High School. Right after high school, he joined The Air National Guard and spent most of his time in the Air Force. He received a Honorable Discharge in 1952. He worked several jobs through the next few years. In the summer of 1956, his friend, Vernon Johnson introduced him to Donna Bussart. They fell in love and got married on June 24, 1957. His first daughter, Sherri, was born on July 16, 1957. His second daughter, Sandy, was born on March 12, 1961. They were a family of faith and going to church on Sunday was important to them. When Sherri and Sandy were growing up, they remember going to the Elliott’s backyard for a big watermelon feed. They took a lot of trips and went to several family reunions with his family on his mother’s side. The Troyer family consists of approximately 450 people. Ken and Donna had many friends and every Saturday night they would pack up the girls and play cards at one of their houses. Ken worked many jobs and always provided for his family. In the year 1978, they got divorced. After that time, he discovered Texas and fell in love with it and bought a house on the lake. He would make many trips before he retired from the Boeing Company after 20 years in 1995 and moved here permanently. He lived on Cedar Creek Lake area for 18 years. Eight years ago, he went to the 49ers Dance Hall and met Mary Ann, his Texas Angel. They became very special friends. They went on trips, dancing on Thursday nights and eating out. They did about everything together. Mary was the only one to keep him in line. When Ken made his decision to stop chemo, he was so tired of the cancer battle. Mary asked him, “Are you sure you’re ready?” He replied, “Yes I am”. Mary said, “Ok.” He then asked her if she thought Heaven had garage sales. She said, “He would not have time to go to them.” Ken had many favorites, to name a few….he loved God, women, jewelry, cars, dancing, playing cards, games, dogs, iced tea, rhubarb pie, Donna’s chip beef gravy, Sandy’s fried chicken, Sherri’s zucchini bread, Mary’s goulash and as we all know, garage sales. Some of the women where he lived, told Sherri and Sandy that the garage sales in Ennis would be greatly affected by dad’s passing. Sherri and Sandy want everyone to know that Mary went above and beyond caring for Ken, when he got cancer. They will be eternally grateful for the love and care she gave to him. They would also like to extend gratitude to all his Texas friends that loved him. He will be missed by many, but especially by his daughters and Mary. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter Addison Marie Williams and sister Lucerne Burlison. He is survived by his daughters; Sherri Wilson and husband Scott, Sandra Williams, grandchildren; Paige, Cassandra, Macey and Madison, special friend Mary Allred and other loving friends.
