Leon was born on February 9, 1927 in McCamey, Texas to parents Nathan and Alice (Ketchersid) Dunn and entered into eternal rest on July 21, 2019 at the age of 92. Leon married the love of his life, Billie Skiles, on December 22, 1951 in Dallas, Texas. Being from Dallas and moving to Cedar Creek Lake area in 1970, Leon saw an opportunity to open a carpet store. Dunn’s Floors and More (Dunn’s Enterprises) is among the first business established in Gun Barrel City and the longest continuous operating one. Leon’s motto was if he couldn’t fix it he would break it so no one could. He was very innovative and has a very creative mind. Leon was a good father and a loving husband. He enjoyed traveling to Galveston and fishing for Flounder. Leon always had his faithful companion near him, Rowdy, who was Leon’s alter ego. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Rowdy. Leon was Baptist by faith and was a member of Sunny Glen Baptist Church. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Aubrey McClintock, son Lewis Charles Dunn, Sister Arlin Riggin and faithful companion Rowdy.
He is survived by his loving wife Billie Dunn of Mabank, daughter Teresa Frank of Venice, FL, niece Linda Strouse and husband Jim of Whitney, nephew Pat (Rusty) Riggin and wife Ann of Midlothian, niece Jodie Skiles of Dallas, friends Dee and Cheryl Nichols of Mabank, caregiver Melissa Penny of Mabank, other loving family members and many more lifelong friends.
