Born on October 23, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, Leroy was a son of the late George Edward Gragson and the late Josie Ellen Price Gragson.
Leroy attended Wilmer Hutchins school district until the 7th grade in which he quit to begin working. He always worked in the construction business operating heavy machinery, mostly a drag line. His bosses over the years would say that he was the best drag line operator that they had ever met. In October 1957, he met the love of his life, Noreta Young. They wed on January 31, 1958 and had 2 children, Teresa and Keith. Leroy and Noreta were married for 60 years when she passed on December 25, 2018. Leroy enjoyed riding his tractor, riding motorcycles, boating, fishing, swimming, watching the Dallas Cowboys and welding. He was always outside building or fixing things.
Leroy is survived by his sister Mary Lou Abel of Caddo Mills, Texas; daughter Teresa Monico and her husband Roger of Tool, Texas, and son Keith Gragson and his wife Marianne of Mountain View, Arkansas; grandson Ronnie Zills and his wife Michelle of Crandall, Texas, granddaughter Kimberly King and her husband Chad of Trinidad, Texas and grandson Richard Gragson of Hot Springs, Arkansas; great grandson’s Dylan LaFon and Caedyn King of Trinidad, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, George and Josie Gragson; his late wife Noreta Gragson; his brothers George (Son) Gragson, Buddy Gragson, Charles Gragson and Carl Gragson; and his sisters Virginia Davis and Juanita Kovar Taylor.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Tool, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Tool Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Zills, Richard Gragson, Jerry Kovar, Carl Gragson Jr., Russell Kerr, Ty King Corey Scrimshire and Joe Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Dingler, L.B. Davis, Damon Rogers and Rick Smith.
