Lewis George Nelson, 84, known as “L.G.” in his younger years and “Lew” in his later age, left his earthly abode on December 6, 2018, in Kemp, Texas. He was born on September 22, 1934 in Soda Springs, Idaho to Thomas Ivan Nelson and Elizabeth Verga “Vergie” Booth. He grew up in Davisville, worked during his teens in Grays Lake, then served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
He married Emma Earlene Watson in 1955 and the couple were blessed with three children: Ivan Keith, Kathy Lynn, and Kelly Diane. They lived in Dallas, Texas. Emma died in 1996. He married Ellen Carney in 1997 in Grays Lake and they lived in Tooele, Utah, then Grays Lake. They were sealed in the Logan Temple in 1998. Lew worked in the tile and stone business and had his own company, Nelson Tile Company, for about 40 years in Dallas and nearly 20 in Tooele, Utah and Grays Lake. He tiled the homes of many of the Dallas Cowboys, Chuck Norris, and Mary Kay of Mary Kay Cosmetics. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities including High Priest secretary, emergency preparedness coordinator, and Sunday School president. Lew enjoyed reading, spending time with family, working with horses, fishing and doing temple work for his ancestors.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Earlene Watson Nelson.
He is survived by his wife Ellen, his children Keith, Canton, Texas, Kathy Lynn Barney, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Kelly Diane (and Calvin) Collingsworth, Dawson, Texas, four step-children, Phyllis Clluff, Portland, Oregon, Maureen Hale, Grace, Wade Carney, Etna, Wyoming, and Gary Carney, Escondido, California, nine grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
