Lila Delores Tapp was born on November 4, 1942 to Fairy Baker and Henry Baker and was raised in the Styx Community. She had three older brothers Kenneth, Don and Larry, who both loved and loved to tease their little sister. She attended Kemp High School and was a member of the Stingerettes. She met the "love of her life" Hollis Tapp and they were married in June of 1961. They had two sons Mike and David and they were blessed to have 62 years together filled with love and laughter. David and Lanna gave Lila her two greatest treasures... her granddaughters Krista and Ashley. She did have to tease her son that she had to wait long enough to get them though and told her daughter-in-law that she had "about gave up and adopt more cats!"
Lila loved many things... the Lord, her family (especially her granddaughters), her cats, her flowers, looking at hummingbirds outside her window, making ceramics, watching her Game Show Network, bluebell ice cream and she especially loved to laugh and "cut up". Everyone who knew her remembers that great big laugh and that mischievous twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes when she was telling a particularly funny joke or teasing someone. Everyone who knew her who probably has a "Lila Tale" or two.
Her granddaughters will always carry a part of her with them: Krista with that great sweet smile, her love of makeup and their love of taking "selfies". Ashley has her great sense of humor and her love of flowers, cats and art. They both share her beautiful blue eyes and her kind heart. They feel truly blessed to have had her as their "biggest cheerleader".
She leaves behind her husband Hollis, son David, daughter-in-law Lanna, granddaughters Krista and Ashley. Sister-in-Law Sheila Rowan, who was a true God send at the end of her life and made her passing as easy as it could be, her life-long friend and Sister-in-law Dorothy Baker, who shared many adventures in their lifetimes, including being the third wheel on Dorothy and Lila's big brother Kenneth's dates. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that she loved dearly. She leaves behind many friends and her Church Family at the Mabank Church of Christ.
Lila passed away on February 5, 2024 and was preceded in death by her mother, father, three brothers, Sister-in-law Mary Baker, Sister-in-law Cherry Gage, Brother-in-Law Johnny Gage, Brother-in-Law Donnie Rowan and her son Mike Tapp.
"You cannot grieve forever, she would not want you to. She'd hope you could carry on the way you always do. So, talk about the good times and the way you showed you cared. The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared...That brings her back so clearly as though she were still here and fills you with the feeling that she is always near. For if you keep these moments, you will never be apart and she will live forever locked safely in your heart."
