Lois Edna Yvonne Allen (Karlsen) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, adventure and boundless love. Lois was born April 11, 1935, in Minot, North Dakota to Einar and Elina Karlsen and raised in the community of Foxholm, North Dakota. She lived a life that was nothing short of extraordinary and her love for God, family and friends was ever present, shining through in her gentle ways.
A true trailblazer, Lois proudly served her country in the United States Navy during the Korean War era. Her time in the service instilled in her a deep sense of discipline, patriotism and a lifelong love for exploration. During her service in the Navy as a Wave, she caught the eye of a Navy Radioman, Carl Leon Allen. They were married on April 20, 1955. Their 71 years of marriage was its own kind of adventure. Carl accepted a position with the FAA as an air traffic controller, which took them all over the world, adopting their children along the way. That adventurous spirit never faded, and she approached every day with courage and grace.
An entrepreneur at heart, Lois was the proud founder/owner of Lois Enterprises. She created beautiful textile products for interior designers, which were once featured in Southern Living Magazine. Lois was very talented and built a thriving business, known just as much for her sharp business acumen as she was for her warm, welcoming presence.
Above all, Lois was a devoted wife, mother and a devout Christian. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring everyone around her. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and lived out the teachings of the Bible daily, offering grace, wisdom and unconditional love to her family and friends.
Lois is deeply mourned by her beloved husband, Carl, as well as their daughters: Laura Cotter with husband Mike of Kemp, Texas; Julie Fogle with husband Derek of Mabank, Texas; and grandchildren: Ethan, Aaron, Katherine and Christian. Lois will be dearly missed by her brother Victor, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless others who knew and loved her.
Lois was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Karlsen Allen; parents, Einar and Elina Karlsen; brothers, Marvin, Kenneth, Robert, Harley and Milford; and sisters, Ruth, Clara, Donna Mae and Joyce.
Graveside service will be held on June 9, 2026, at 10 am at College Mound Cemetery in Terrell, Texas.
