

Marcella Cross was born November 22, 1917 in Kiowa, Oklahoma. Marcella’s parents, Leona and Peter Gid Turney, moved to Oklahoma in 1900 from Higdon, Arkansas. The family business was farming. Marcella had 6 sisters and 5 brothers. All reared around the Kiowa, OK area. Marcella’s formal education was through the 9th grade, in a small country room. The farm work and crops had to take priority. She married Amos P. Cross on October 11, 1940. She was the wife of a wounded War World II Veteran and mother of 3 children. The family left the farm in 1955 and moved to Grand Prairie, TX, where Amos went to work for Security Engineers and later for General Motors. Marcella was a housewife, stay at home mom and gardener. When times were really hard, she cleaned the church building, took in ironing and cooked at the elementary school.
She was preceded in death by Amos after 70 years of marriage and daughter Annette Simon in 1997.
She leaves behind 1 son, Seth Cross and Pam Willis of Arlington, 1 daughter Carrie and Sam Starr of Paradise, 1 son-in-law Tim Simon of Grand Prairie, 5 grandchildren; Brian and Nancy Simon of Levelland, DeeAnna and Lann Pommerening of Grand Prairie, Adam and Meggan Starr of Norman, OK, Jennifer Clark of Palestine, Devin Cross Young of Mineral Wells, 9 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, other loving family members and many more friends.
