Peggy Sue Speed Anderson of Canton, Texas, passed away at HomePlace, Hospice of East Texas on September 30, 2021. She was 89 years old.
Peggy was born in the Oak Grove community of Kaufman, Texas on March 8, 1932 to Wilfred Felix and Edna Mae Dunson Speed. A graduate of Kaufman High School, she
served as co-chair for the Class of 48 for the KHS Jubilee Committee.
Peggy and her husband of 62 years, Tom Anderson, met at First Baptist Church in Dallas in 1958. They had two children and in 1964 built a home on eight acres in the Oak Grove community outside Kaufman, Texas where they lived for over 40 years. In 2004, Peggy and Tom built a home in Canton, Texas, where they lived out their later retirement years.
Peggy worked for a number of years at the Temple Nash Agency and at Pool Furniture Company in Kaufman, Texas. In 1980, Peggy and Tom founded Kaufman Medical Aids, providing durable medical goods, medical uniforms, and other medical equipment and supplies to hospitals and individuals in the surrounding area. Peggy managed the successful company until they sold it in 1993
.
In addition to work and raising a family, Peggy was very active in church, both in Kaufman at First Baptist Church and later in Canton at Little Hope Baptist Church, A gifted alto singer, she joyously and faithfully sang in the choir. She loved teaching and leading children’s programs and activities and had a special heart for caring for people who felt lonely, outcast, or on the fringes of society.
Peggy’s tender heart, humble spirit, and sweet soul endeared her to everyone she met. She faithfully prayed for others, and showed her love through acts of service and words of encouragement.
She is survived by her husband, her two children, Martha Anderson and Stuart Anderson, her grandchildren Kristin, Timothy and JR Loudenback, four great-grandchildren, a nephew, Roger Bryant, nieces Linda Yancy, Rita Anderson, Carolyn Perkins, and Dana Colvin as well as numerous other great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 2, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm, both at Little Hope Baptist Church in Canton, Texas.
