Richard "Ricky" Wylie Terry Jr.

Ricky was a lifelong resident of Gun Barrel City and Mabank, Texas. He attended Notre Dame School of Dallas for children with special needs, where he developed a love for learning and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in-law, Rufus F. Marshall Jr., “Loser” of Mansfield, Louisiana.

Ricky is survived by his devoted sister, who he lovingly referred to as “slow poke”, Janey Marshall of Mansfield, Louisiana; his special cousin, Bill Whitacker “Split Pants” of Center, Texas; his special "brother," Larry Sallings “Gutterball” of Mabank, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.

Ricky's faith in God was the foundation of his life. He faithfully served the churches wherever he lived and especially loved singing and leading music whenever he had the opportunity. His joyful spirit and willingness to serve were a blessing to those around him.

An accomplished bowler, Ricky earned many honors and trophies throughout the years, a testament to both his skill and dedication to the sport.

He was also an avid sports fan with a passion for football and baseball. Ricky proudly referred to himself as a "coach" for the Dallas Cowboys and a "manager" for the Texas Rangers. He could recall player statistics and team records with remarkable accuracy, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with anyone willing to listen.

Above all, Ricky will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faith, infectious enthusiasm, and the love he shared with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his sister, Janey, with whom he made his home during the last five years of his life. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

A graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Mabank, Texas on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 1 pm.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ben Leggio and the compassionate staff of Christus Schumpert Hospice, Shreveport, Louisiana for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided during Ricky's life. Their dedication and comfort were a tremendous blessing to Ricky and his family during this time.
