

Robert Wilson Rea III passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 5, 2026, after a brief but brutal battle with lung cancer. True to who he was, Rob was a fighter until the very end. He died with his boots on. He was a proud graduate of St. Mark’s School of Texas and an attendee of Texas A & M University.
Rob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan “Susie” Huber Rea, and his mother, Polly Rea.
He is survived by his fiancé, Jesse Carr; and her daughters Marleigh Tidwell and Madison Griffith; his father, Peter W. Rea; and his brother, Christopher Crawford Rea, his wife, Kelly; and his nephew, Robert Crawford Rea.
Rob is also survived by Susie’s children, Jen Wetherill and her husband, Aaron, and their children, Hailey Wetherill, Cade Wetherill, and Cason Wetherill; and Jeff Whitley and his wife, Sylvia, and their children, Silver Mora, Landon Whitley, and Hudson Whitley.
Rob was very active in the Gun Barrel City area serving for several years as a City Councilman. He participated and helped fund many charitable projects. Rob was a proud local business owner, operating Rita’s private club for many years. Rob was a lover of outdoor activities and all things cowboy.
Rob was loved and will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, 601 South 3rd Street, Mabank, TX 75147, on September 10, 2026, from 11:00 am.
