

Sallie Burton, best known as “Meme” or “Granny” was born on May 14, 1923, in Hermleigh, Texas to David and Mary Layman. She was one of five children that grew up on a cotton farm in West Texas. Sallie was married to her late husband, Arthur Burton, for 42 years. Together they had two boys, Don and Steve, and were blessed with four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Sallie worked for the GSA Department of the Federal Government for 25 years. Sallie spent a long period of her life in Arlington, Texas where she and Arthur raised their two boys. Later Sallie enjoyed many of her golden years with family and friends at her lake home on Cedar Creek Reservoir. Sallie loved spending time at her church, Payne Springs Methodist, and was a selfless servant to all that knew her.
Sallie was blessed with many good friends in her neighborhood, especially a group of three ladies that were called the “Golden Girls”. Sallie was the “Boss”, Vivian the “Southern Belle”, and Louise the “Grouch”, and they would meet every week on someone’s deck overlooking the lake for a happy hour. Sallie also enjoyed playing bridge with her Ladies’ group once a week.
Sallie was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Burton, and by her 3 brothers David, Jim and Ira Layman.
She is survived by her son’s, Don Burton and his wife Kay, and Steve Burton, as well as her grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Lauren and Nathan, and her great grandchildren Keri, Kaylie, and Lillian. She is also survived by her sister Ann Chadwick.
