Sandra was born on October 6, 1950 in Tyler, Texas to parents Preston Edwin and Josephine (Long) Hitt and entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2019 at the age of 68. She graduated from Hobbs High School in New Mexico and New Mexico State University. Sandra worked for the Mabank Water Department for 25 plus years. She married Benny Paul Thomas in Hobbs, New Mexico on June 10, 1977 and they were together until his passing on June 28, 2012. Sandra was an amazing lady, spunky, tough and strong willed. She was a social butterfly and had many friends. Sandra enjoyed being at the American Legion, where she was a member for over 25 years, organizing charities and fund raisers. She was most active with cancer research, Mabank Special Olympics, and The Scottish Rite Hospital. Sandra loved helping others and her community, but most of all she loved her husband and spending time with her family. She enjoyed being outdoors & camping with her friends. Sandra was an amazing mother, memaw, and sister. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, husband Benny Paul Thomas, and brother Bobby Hitt.
She is survived by her brother Edwin Earl Hitt and wife Patty of Oak Leaf, TX, sister Gayle Juarez of Albuquerque, NM, sister Aleta Smith and husband Robin of Tucumcari, NM, step-son Donnie Thomas of Payne Springs, step-daughter Deanna Freeman and husband Monte of Kemp, step-daughter Dianna Banda and husband Gilbert of Hurst, grandchildren; Michael, DJ, Dillon, Joshua, Joey, Jordan, Andrew and Miranda, 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other loving family members and many more lifelong friends.
