Shirley Ann Thornton

Shirley Ann Thornton, age 82, of Gun Barrel City, Texas passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022. Shirley was born April 14, 1940. She was a caring and doting wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was talented and adventurous; loved traveling and bowling. Shirley has been on 58 cruises and won Silver in a Texas Bowling Tournament. Christian by faith, Shirley attended the Liberty Baptist Church. She worked at the Temple Paper Mill in Eva Dell, TX. for 20 years. Shirley will be truly missed by all of those she met and knew.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Penton and Lura Stringfellow; and her sister.

She is survived by her loving husband of 84 years, Glen Thornton of Gun Barrel City, TX.; children, Freya Niedrstdt (65) of Port Arthur, TX., Susan Helton (63) of Venice, FL., Robert Helton (63) of Huntsville, TX., Sherry Myers (62) of San Antonio, TX., Dwayne Thornton (59) of Gilmer, TX., Tammy Asher (55) of Beaumont, TX.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; along with several other family members and relatives.
