Tommy was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 6, 1949, to Earl Hancock, Jr. and Johnie Helen Thurman. Growing up in Dallas, he developed a robust work ethic and deep roots within his community, culminating in his graduation from W.W. Samuell High School with the Class of 1967. Shortly thereafter, Tommy honorably answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Serving in the United States Army, he achieved the rank of E-5, a reflection of his leadership, bravery, and steadfast dedication to duty.
Upon returning home, Tommy embarked on a remarkable career in the concrete paving industry that spanned over 50 years. A true builder at heart, his hands laid down foundations that will endure for generations. When he was not working, Tommy filled his life with the simple pleasures of the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who found great solace and joy in nature.
At home, Tommy was known for his restless, creative energy; he loved to "piddle" with various projects around the house, frequently losing himself in his passions for woodworking and gardening. Above all else, Tommy was a family man. He shared 50 beautiful, devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife, Yvonne, building a massive and lasting legacy of love, laughter, and strong family values.
"A soldier, a builder, a fisherman, and a family man—Tommy’s hands built roads, his heart built a family, and his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him."
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Hancock, Jr.; his mother Johnie Helen Thurman; and his sisters Vicki Lynn Hancock and Deborah Ann Hancock.
He is survived by Yvonne Hancock, his loving wife of 50 years; his daughters Joanna Lynn Snell (and husband, Jimmy), Gabrielle Hancock, and Jody Hancock (and girlfriend, Ana); his son Matthew Hancock (and girlfriend, Donna Molnar); seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren who brought immense light and joy to his life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. Tommy will be laid to rest in Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
