Velma Ruth Schmidt

Graveside services will be held for Velma Ruth (Vance) Schmidt, 75, of Tyler, Texas at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wednesday July 12, 2023, at 12pm with Bro. Gary Langford officiating. Visitation will begin at 10am at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, Mabank, Texas prior to service.

Velma went home to the Lord on July 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Garland, Texas on March 13, 1948, to John Arvel and Patricia (Gillispie) Vance. Velma was a proud member of Heritage Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. Velma’s passion included gardening and a love of teaching. Velma was married on November 5, 1997, after meeting her life partner in Frank Schmidt and together they shared 25 wonderful years together. Velma enjoyed shopping and taking care of the house and Frank. The one thing she didn’t care too much for was riding the motorcycle but she would because it made Frank happy. She also took care of scheduling the family reunion every year to ensure everyone could enjoy time together.

Velma is survived by her loving husband, Frank Schmidt; son, Scott Kessler and wife, Alicia; daughters: Patty Hill, Delaney Hill; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, James Vance and wife, Kim; sister, Kathy Laney; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Kessler; parents, John and Patricia Vance; brother, Larry John Vance; sister, Nita Kaye Vance.
