Walter Thomas Hellebrand, born on April 8, 1939, in Passaic, New Jersey, passed away on December 1, 2023 in Tyler, Texas. He was the son of Martin Hellebrand and Stella (Czubat) Hellebrand. Walter held various titles throughout his life, including husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and an exceptional friend.
Being a kind and dependable father was paramount to Walter, and he exceeded expectations by loving his family wholeheartedly. He prioritized the needs of others, subtly imparted life lessons, and left a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Walter was passionate about the outdoors and shared his love for hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was also an avid runner, participating in 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons. Upon retiring from his career at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Walter relocated to East Texas, where his love for Model A cars flourished. As a Cedar Creek Model A Ford Club member, he formed close friendships that became like family. He also proudly served on the Board of Directors for the CCMAFC. Walter enjoyed participating in car shows and taking his Model A's on Texas tours.
In his later years, Walter dedicated his time to volunteering at Cedar Lake Nursing Home alongside his wife, Anna. A quote from the nursing home, "Walter and Anna are the best volunteers in the world. Before Covid changed the world, they were here every day, visiting with our residents, helping with activities, and doing anything they could to improve the lives of the people who live here. They still come as much as they can. We love them so much."
He is survived by his wife, Anna (Koncak) Hellebrand, son David Hellebrand, daughter Donna Montgomery (Husband Scott), daughter Dana May, brother Edward Hellebrand, son-in-law Mark DeSimone, eight grandchildren (Paul & Matthew Hellebrand, Ryan & Sean DeSimone, Jordan & Camrin May, Zach & Grant Montgomery), six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Walter will be deeply missed by his extended family, including Paula Burleson, Andrea Nipp, and dear friend John Shore.
He is predeceased by his father, Martin Hellebrand; mother, Stella (Czubat) Hellebrand; daughter, Diane DeSimone; wife, Virginia Weaver Hellebrand; and brother, John Hellebrand.
May Walter's memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
