Unfortunately,  I didn't get to know William as well as I would have liked.  I first met him when I joined the Cedar Creek Amatuer Radio Club.  I was impressed with.his outgoing demeanor and friendship. I felt very welcomed as part of his group of Ham Radio Operators.  I was always pleased when he would attend our weekly luncheons. Loved to hear him talk. He was a big man, not only in size but also in heart. You'll be missed big guy. May you rest in eternal peace..73 to ya, Don...KG5NHB

Bill and Nell are our daughter-in-law’s parents.  We were invited to go on a camping trip to Arkansas with them and Kelly’s siblings.   We really got to know Bill and the wealth of knowledge he had when it rained so much we spent hours inside out travel trailer playing trivial pursuit.  Bill’s team always won!  We also learned Bill loved fire.  He could somehow even get wet firewood to burn.  
We were also blessed to enjoy two cruises with Bill and Nell.  One was a 10 day cruise around Italy, and the other was a 14 day cruise to the Panama Canal less than a month before Bill went to Heaven.  Bill was a joy to be with, always smiling and always sharing  his wealth of knowledge with us.  
Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him.   All of us who knew Bill  has been very blessed to have known him.  
God bless you Nell.  May your precious memories be a comfort to you.  We love you and we loved Bill.  

For a little over 25 years, Bill was my father in law.  He always made me feel welcome in his family and treated me like a daughter.  I am so thankful for the time we spent together and the memories we built.  I am thankful for the lifetime of love he poured into our lives.  I am thankful for the Biblical wisdom and insight he shared with me.  I am thankful for the parenting advice he gave to Brian and I.  I am thankful that he spent time with our kids each summer during cousin camp.  I am thankful for the lessons he taught Brian his whole life that he has remembered and modeled in our home.  I am thankful for his faith, which was evident in every aspect of his life.  

One of my favorite memories of Bill was watching the movie Galaxy Quest with him.  It was one of his favorite movies and we always say that you if you haven't seen it with Bill, then you really haven't seen it.  He would giggle and laugh (mostly quietly) until something really struck him as funny and then he would get going in a full blown laugh that was infectious and SO fun!  You couldn't help but laugh along and it was so great to see him take joy in the experience.  

Bill, I will miss you until the day we meet again in Heaven.  I love you.  Steph  

 Bill ( or as I and other called him 'Moos') and Nell ‘adopted’ me during college. I was a student of Bill's, and he helped teach me my love of computers. He gave me opportunities at school that I would not have had anywhere else. He started at DBU my freshman year. I know that God placed us there at the same time for a reason. After graduation and a little later in life, Bill and Nell hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner, because my father (who had past away before I went to school) was not there to do it. He and his family (including Jim Miles whom I shared an apartment with for a few years) have always held a special place in my heart. Thinking of Jim Miles, Nell Conner Moos, Brian Moos, Russell Moos, Kelly Schieffer and the rest of their families. Rest in peace William Moos. I will see you on the other side.

He was my STEP-Father. I'm not supposed to miss him this much, but I do. I'm going to miss the way he provided and cared for my Mom. I'm going to miss the kind of discussions I only had with him, philosophical and technical discussions about some of the most esoteric stuff. I'll miss his generosity and his open home. I'll miss him for the extra attention he paid me after my Dad died, sharing our common interests and bonding like we hadn't done before. He was my step-father for more than 35 years, but he went home yesterday. I'll miss you, Moos.

Well Marines another brother of ours has passed, Major William Moos, USMC. My great uncle whom has always been a shining example of a great Christian leader. It was my honor to have served in the same branch on the same base and the same unit just a decade or two behind you. Thank you for your service and the lessons about what a real man looked like it gave me something to aspire to. I love you Uncle Bill and I will see you again.

William was a mover and shaker and VP and President of the ham radio club.  He loved to go to schools and set up equipment to demonstrate ham radio's reach.  He gave lectures at the club and was the trustee of the club's repeaters.  That is one of the most trusted positions he held.

He will be sorely missed.  Happy Trails Bill!

Bill was my step dad from the time I was 13 years old. Oddly enough he and my dad were good friends in college, and they remained friends throughout my life. I have a picture of them both putting a penny in my shoe at my wedding.  One of the most precious gifts my parents gave to me growing up was their ability to forgive and get along. I could never thank Bill enough for loving my mom well and taking good care of her, and I have always felt like part of the Moos family, even though I’m not a Moos. When people would see us together as a family and look quizzically at my height, I would say “not by blood,” and the light of comprehension would dawn. 

As everyone who knew him knows, he was an intellectual giant as well as a physical one.  Once when I was in high school I was stumped by a problem in trigonometry, trying to complete a homework assignment. It was getting late and Bill was helping me, but instead of simply telling me the steps to work the problem, he began to explain the origins and theories behind the problem. Soon I was in tears, asking “Can you just tell me how to DO THIS PROBLEM?” At the time I was frustrated but I remember that episode fondly. It seems Bill always had a way of weaving universal truths into every conversation. 

One time at cousin camp, the cousins were gathered outside in the backyard of Grandma and Grandpa’s house because we were testing out these toy rockets that we could launch by pulling them back on a rubber band just right and then releasing them.  Grandpa was teaching us how to launch said rockets.  Michael was a bit more ambitious than the rest of us and pulled the rubber band so far back that it snapped.  
Now Grandpa could have looked past this as something that was to be expected.  But no, this time he decided he would make it a day to remember.
So Grandpa says, “Well these rockets you see, you are only supposed to pull them
 yea far back before releasing them, and then they’d fly nicely like they’re supposed to.  You realize these things are not so easily broken.  Not even the teenage mutant ninja turtles could have broken that rocket!  Even Godzilla’s kid brother couldn’t break that rocket, oh but Michael could!  You’re only supposed to stretch it back like this, but Michael went HAAA” and there when he said HAAA he stretched his arms out to their full wingspan of about 6 feet and had all the cousins rolling on the ground in tears because they were laughing so hard.

Sometimes during Cousin Camp when we were a bit rowdy and not yet ready for bed even though it was bedtime, instead of putting in another movie to watch, Grandpa decided to tell us all stories about the Advent of the Universe (which I believe was his name for the Big Bang), and all kinds of strange and wonderful facts about stars and constellations and the distance between the nucleus of an atom and its electrons and how you could take a pencil and poke it in a piece of paper and if you took that pencil poke and converted it into energy, you could run the city of Chicago for a year, and just mind boggling things like this, most of which went over our heads, but we listened anyway because it was just so fascinating, until we grew tired and started nodding off to sleep, which of course had been the goal all along.

When Grandpa was first starting boot camp to join the marines, he and everyone else had to have their hair cut to military standards.  Now Grandpa didn’t know this at the time, but apparently he had a boil on his scalp that was currently hidden by his hair.  Keep in mind that he was just as tall then as we know him to be today.  So when the barber buzzed off his hair, he buzzed right through the boil, and it started bleeding from his head.  Of course he doesn’t feel a thing.  So he goes out and his buddies look a bit startled so he asks, “What’s Wrong?”
And they say, “You’re bleeding from your head.”
And Grandpa touches his head until he feels where the blood was coming from, looks at his bloody hand and says, “Well Look At That, So I Am.”

Grandpa told us a story about when he went overseas as a Marine.  He said that one time they were working on some equipment where a cable was tightly wound and was under a lot of pressure, and this cable for whatever reason snapped and started spinning around like the blades of a helicopter.  Now this poor fellow who was also a Marine (we’ll call him Westin), he walked a little too close unaware of the deadly spinning cable.  The end of it sliced through the front of his shirt that was covering his chest, he went dead white, and he collapsed on the ground.  And Grandpa thought, “Oh no!  I’ve just killed Westin!”  But no, Westin was fine, just shocked was all.  They woke him up with a splash of cold water.

Every year for cousin camp we went to the science place in Tyler.  The tradition was to take all the cousins, sometimes in multiple vehicles if needed, to the Discovery Science Place, run around and explore it for a few hours, then leave and go across the town to Cici’s pizza for a feast.  
But this year (2010) was a little bit different.  We took two cars, went to the science place like always, had fun.  But when we left for Cici’s, something was not quite right.  Grandma thought of her vehicle, “I think I have one grandkid missing.”  Grandpa thought the same of his vehicle.  Apparently they both thought simultaneously, “Oh it’s fine, he must be in the other vehicle,” and drove off without a care in the world.  Across the entire city of Tyler.  To Cici’s Pizza.
Meanwhile, a certain Micah Moos was wandering the halls of the science place, wondering where everyone had gone.  He was not frightened of course, he knew we would eventually find out our mistake and come back for him.  Maybe it helped that the workers at the science place took pity on him and let him pet their display iguana, who was usually kept behind glass.
Of course when we all got to Cici’s and did a head count, we found out Micah was missing and Grandma about near had a heart attack.  So Grandpa drove all the way back across Tyler, by himself, to fetch the missing cousin.  He succeeded and all was well.  Ever since then, we were very careful to make sure everyone got back on the vehicles when we left the science place.

My husband, Bill (I never called him William!), was an eternally optimistic, loving, and Godly man, a gentle giant. People would always ask him “How tall are you?” He would answer “Just 6’8”…..It’s the lights. They make me look tall!” And when people asked, “How are you doing?” He would say “Outstanding, but it’ll get better!” 
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and especially by me, his wife of 36 years!

My wife and I are ham radio friends of William, my call KA5IPF, Millie is W5AUX. We have enjoyed knowing William thru the ham club and will miss his easygoing style and excellent teaching methods. I thought of him as the gentle giant. We considered him a friend and will miss him. We will miss the funeral as we will be in Louisiana but our thoughts will be with you.
