

He married the love of his life Joan Furman on October 7, 1956.
Alan lived most of his life in Rockford. He worked a majority of his career for McDermaid Roofing until his stroke in 2001. He was a proud marine who courageously served during the Korean War. He and Joan were regulars at the Moose Club in Belvidere.
Alan was a gifted mechanic who could fix anything. He meticulously restored numerous classic cars which he and Joan enjoyed displaying at car shows and local parades.
Joan was Al’s caregiver for the first six years after his devastating stroke, until her health declined.
The family would like to thank the staff at River Bluff and Dr. Joseph Ross for the wonderful care and compassion Al received for the last six years of his life.
Survivors include his son, Wayne (Lisa) Messman; granddaughter, Isabella Messman; brothers, Dwayne Messman and Leland Messman; sisters, Carol Warren, Jane Linn, and June Hayden; sister-in-law, Joy (Steve) Vee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife.
