

Alfons ‘Al’ E. Wojcik, 92, passed away peacefully at Swedish American Hospital, Saturday, June 2, 2012, with loving family by his side.
Born April 2, 1920, in Muskegan, Michigan, son of Frank and Julia Wojcik. Attended Rockford High School. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps, as a pilot, flying a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter in the China/Burma/India Theater. He Married Fran L. Bland Jan. 19, 1950, in Chicago. Remarried to Sandra R. Ahmer Nov. 30. 1974 in Rockford.
Al worked with his father’s construction company before taking over the business, Wojcik Construction Co., as a general contractor. He later incorporated renaming the business, Design Buildings, Inc. Al had an outstanding reputation as a builder and always stood by his work. He built many residential units, office buildings and commercial buildings over the years in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. He continued working into his late 80’s. Al was also a private pilot and owned several planes over his lifetime. He loved fishing, especially in northern Wisconsin and taking float trips on the Kishwaukee River. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 9759 and the Belstone fishing club. Former Mason and Tebala Air Squadron Shriner, QB (Quiet Birdmen) Rockford Hangar, P-47 Pilots’ Association member, Polish Air Force and Combat Flyers group member.
Until recent years, Al enjoyed meeting with his lunch buddies at various restaurants, most weekdays. He loved spending time with his family. He is survived by son, Terrry L. Wojcik of Lake Lure, NC; daughters, Juleah Wojcik of Machesney Park, Jackie Wojcik of Rockford and Jocelyn (Jeff) Kullens of Machesney Park; step-sons, Kevin (Debra) Ahmer of Fondulac, WI and Scott (Robin) Ahmer of Colorado Springs,CO; 7 grandchildren, Kristin Wojcik, Juliana, Jeffery and Jonathan Kullens, Erin (Johnathan) Lake, Erik (Holly) Ahmer and Daniel Ahmer; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Pre-deceased by parents; both wives; sisters, Lottie Dzielak and Laura Kneller.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Loves Park. Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
