Arlene C. Pfeil

We are saddened to share that Arlene Carla (Goodman) Pfeil, of Rockford, Illinois, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born in Boston, MA to Leah Mitchell Goodman Krock and Joseph Goodman. She was surrounded by loved ones as she passed.

Fiercely independent and full of life, Arlene was known for her feisty spirit and the way she loved without hesitation. Her family was her greatest pride and joy—she adored her children, cherished her grandchildren, and delighted in her great-grandchildren. She never missed a chance to cheer them on, spoil them a little, and remind them how deeply they were loved.

Beyond her family, Arlene shared deep and lasting friendships that spanned years and decades. Her friends knew her as loyal, fun, and a source of unwavering support—always ready with a smile, a story, or a helping hand. Her friends weren’t just friends, they were family.

She leaves behind her daughters: Kim (Terry) Devine and Kara (Dan) Verbsky; her grandchildren, Andrew (Leorena) Hartwig, Evan (Mackenzi) Hartwig, Eric Hartwig, and Reese (Tristan Ropa) Verbsky; and her great-grandchildren Grayson and Lettie; along with countless friends and family members who loved her dearly and will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

While we will miss her fiercely, we are comforted knowing her love and spirit live on in each of us. She taught us to be strong, to love deeply, and to find joy in the little things—and that is her greatest legacy. We celebrate a life lived with passion, courage, and love.

The family would like to thank the healthcare staff of the Riverside Mercy Health ER, the ICU, Med 2, Palliative Care and Mercy Health Hospice for the care, comfort, and compassion they showered Arlene, her family, and friends with in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Red Cross, as they have been instrumental is assisting with emergency contact and visitations with our loved one in the Army.

Cremation rites have been performed. Sunset Funeral Home is assisting the family, and a private inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
