

Arthur “Art” Grams, 93, of Loves Park went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Brandon, Wis., to Gottlieb and Augusta Grams. Arthur was one of 12 children born to Gottlieb and Augusta. Art married Betty Steeves on June 30, 1941. They were blessed to have 72 years together. Art was in the Army from Sept. 6, 1945 – Dec. 2, 1946. He served as a dental technician in the Army. Art’s only child, Jacqueline Sue, was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Fort Collins, Colo. Art attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and he ministered in several small churches in Colorado. He moved his family to Rockford in 1954, and began building homes with his brother, Charles. Art had a very successful career in home building in Rockford. He built many homes and apartment buildings. Survivors include wife, Betty; daughter, Jacqueline (Jim) Martindale; granddaughter, Michelle (Jamie) Dorn; grandson, Scott (Carmen) Martindale; eight great-grandchildren, Amber Belden, Amanda Belden, Victoria Martindale, Ashley Belden, Michael Belden, Branden Dorn, Chelsea Dorn and Johnny Martindale.
