Avis Vaughan, 97, of Rockford, was called to her Heavenly home on February 22, 2025.
Avis was the daughter of Richard and Mary (Mitchell) Lawrence. Avis married Donald “Shorty” Vaughan in 1945.
She attended Freedom Fellowship and Central Christian Church. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized on September 8, 2002.
Avis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time at their cottage in Wisconsin, cooking/baking, fishing, reading, crocheting, and playing the organ.
Avis is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and nine siblings.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Pat) Vaughan, Judy (Roger) Gray, and Donald “Dickie” (Anita) Vaughan; nine grandchildren, Lance (Mary) Blake, Nicole (Harold) Hitchcock, Kasondra (Brian) LaMere, Lorrie (the late Aaron) Wolf, Leslie (Aaron) McVay, Richie (Tammy) Fiedler, Shelly List, Donnie (Heidi) Fiedler, and Donald (Stephanie) Vaughan; 24 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to River Bluff Nursing Home and Avis’ favorite nurse, Caroline.
Services for Avis will take place Friday, February 28, 2025, at Firstborn Ministries, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, until the time of her funeral at 11:00 AM. Avis will be laid to rest beside her husband in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
