Barry S. Smith, 63, of Chana, IL, passed away suddenly, Monday evening, August 24, 2026 after some health challenges. He was born July 14, 1963 in Rockford, IL, the son of Jimmie "Jack" and Sharon (Bland) Smith, Jr. Barry married Halah Abudayyeh on November 7, 1986. He was the proud owner of DentSmith, Inc. Barry loved Lionel trains, bicycles and target sports. He adored spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters and was looking forward to meeting his new grandson. Barry was the life of the party, and was cited for being the funniest person that most people knew. He was a hard working man who loved God and his country. Barry enjoyed meeting people and helping anyone he could. He was a man of many talents, who enjoyed everything from tearing apart engines to ballroom dancing.
Barry is loved and missed by his wife, Halah; children, Stephan Smith, Nicholas (Jane) Smith and Alexandra (Alex) Ernster; grandchildren, Sophia Ernster, Elena Smith and Barry Zayn Ernster; parents, Jimmie "Jack" and Sharon Smith; siblings, Michele (Art) Becker, Greg (Angie) Smith, Jeniffer (Bill) Harper; nieces and nephews, Aneese Abbed, Jehan Abbed, Murad Abbed, Senah Abudayyeh, Malek Shaabneh, Maysah (Brandon)Mansour, Makena Smith, Mo Abbed, Malley Smith, Joel Becker, Mac Smith, Jack Harper, Sam Harper and great niece Esme Abbed. He was preceded death by his nephew, Derek Becker, maternal grandparents, Richard and Gladys Bland, and paternal grandparents, Jimmie and Delia Smith, Sr.
A visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his grandchildren's future education.
