Mrs. Betty Joann (Tyler) Dargel/Smith, of Shirland, IL, born on January 19, 1940 in Richland Center, Richland County, WI, to the late Lucille Alvira Scott and the late Elwin Barney Tyler, went to be with Jesus at age 78, on July 19, 2018 at Mercyhealth Hospital, Rockford, IL. She worked for over 30 years at Walter Lawson Childrens Home. She was the wife of Donald J Smith; former wife of the late Duane Alan Dargel. In addition to those listed above, Betty is predeceased by 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 granddaughter. She is survived by her sons, David (Sandra) Dargel of Celina, TX, Dennis (Roxanne) Dargel of Winnebago, IL, Donald (Heather) Dargel of Stoughton, WI, and a step-daughter, Mary (Jason) Sunday of Belvidere, IL. Betty is also survived by 4 sisters, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She had an extreme passion for the Green Bay Packers (a lifelong fan) and Bart Starr in particular. She was a previous member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Machesney Park, IL and she was a current member of Family Worship Center of Beloit, WI. Memorials in Betty’s name to Walter Lawson Childrens Home are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family are welcome to attend the visitation on Tuesday, July 24 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL, 61115. Funeral service (also at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens) Wednesday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a brief graveside service and a light meal at 12:30 p.m. at Family Worship Center 1021 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.
