

Betty Lou Hakes, 86, Loves Park, passed away on May 3, 2013 at her residence. She was born on February 15, 1927 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Floyd and Alta (Gilstrap) Winkler. She married Robert Harry Hakes on July 12, 1948 in Woodstock, Illinois.
Betty worked for many years as a cashier at Montgomery Wards, Rockford Dry Goods and Hilander Foods.
She was longtime active member of North Park Covenant Church, 35 year member of the Eagles and a member of the Red Hat Society. Betty was also an avid sewer, quilter and bowler.
Betty is survived by her children, Brian (Joyce) Hakes, Berry Lynn (Bob) Wilson, Larry Hakes, and Barbara (Edwin) White; grandchildren Tanya, Andrea, Brent, Alison, and David; Sister, Judy Torphy; Sisters in law; Peggy Hakes, Bea Hakes, Virginia (John) Henn, and Jean Winkler; 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by very close friends, Mary Doner, Marlene (Harlow) Rosborough, friends at Sunset Christian Life Retirement Center and very special friend, protime nurse-Joy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; loving daughter, Katherine Jo Hakes; brother, Richard Winkler and 4 brothers in law and a sister in law.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at North Park Covenant Church, 545 Superior Ave, Machesney Park. Pastor Jason Mach will be officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to North Park Covenant Church.
