

Betty J. Mitchell was born on April 12, 1933 in Vernon, Texas to Bronie and Evelyn Fults. On August 11, 2020 Betty passed away from a short term illness. On June 21st, 1953 Betty married the love of her life, James Mitchell. With only an 8th grade education Betty worked as a telephone operator for 20 years for Illinois Bell until they were sold to a larger business. Betty enjoyed gardening and taking care of her lawn, bingo, and crocheting; she made beautiful Afghans. Above all Betty was a family first woman; always extending a hand or a listening ear to family members when they needed her.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Connie (Jim) Groshans and Susan (Timothy) Coaty; grandchildren, Mindy Groshans, Naomi (Ryan) Thornton, Erick (Jorge Sanchez) Groshans, AJ (Chantelle Roy-Groshans) Groshans, Matt (Jenn) Coaty, Ben (Kelly) Coaty, and April (Dyllan) Tiburzi; several great grandchildren; siblings, Larry Don (Judy) Fults and Linda (Mike) Blanchard. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell; parents Bronie and Evelyn Fults; siblings, Edward Fults and Janie Fults.
A Graveside Service officiated by Betty’s brother, Larry Don Fults will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 2pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens (8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115). Interment to follow.
