Calvin “Cal” L. Nelson, 64, of Rockford, Illinois, told his last joke on Friday, October 4, 2024. He was born January 7, 1960, to William and Mildred Nelson in Rockford. He was employed with Joe Behr throughout the years. Cal was an easygoing man, and had a sense of humor like no other. Cal wanted to make it clear that he was not a hippie, but he did love taking care of his plants and listening to classic rock. He also always had his furry sidekicks, Bella and Lucy, by his side. He was hardworking, and his children were his priority. His priority and love grew with the addition of his first granddaughter, Nevaeh, who he loved spending time with. Cal was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back, helping anyone he could.
He is survived by his sons, Ian (Kayla) Nelson, and Joe (Kayla Severide) Nelson; granddaughter, Nevaeh Nelson; bonus grandson, Jaxson Williams; brothers, William Nelson Jr. and Fred Nelson; mother of his children, Janet Nelson (Hocking); special nephew, Mark Johnson; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred; sister, Gloria Alex.
