Calvin Adam Schafer, age 87, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away on Saturday March 8, 2025. He was born March 14, 1937 to William Arvil and Lydia (Moeller) Schafer in Dent County, Missouri. He married the love of his life, Thelma Burright, on August 8, 1959 at Grace Methodist Church in Rockford, Illinois. He worked as a machinist for many years before he opened his own computer business, Papa Chips. Calvin was a proud Scout Leader for over 30 years in Troops 27, 601, and a few more. He enjoyed technology and programming computers. He was an outdoorsman who loved deer hunting, fishing, and camping. Calvin’s favorite show was Walker Texas Ranger.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Thelma Schafer; children, Calvin (Editha) Schafer Jr., Edward (Noel) Schafer, and Daniel Schafer; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Calvin, Darryl, Joseph, Ariel, Emily, and Jason; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Noah, Emmett, Connor, and Harrison; siblings, Wayne, Neda, Paula, Helen, and Ralph; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arvil and Lydia Schafer; brother, Lawrence Arnold Schafer; and sisters, Nettie Stella Freedlund (nee Schafer) and Alice Louise Schafer.
A visitation will be held for Calvin on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, Illinois, 61115. A service will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Calvin will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115-2277.
